Simon Hulstone

Since the age of 15, MICHELIN Star Chef Simon Hulstone navigated the culinary industry, winning almost every competition in his path. He would go on to win gold in the World Skills Competition in France as the only British Chef, followed by over 50 individual titles worldwide.

Simon is passionate about local produce, directly taken from his restaurant’s farm, and lets the seasons inspire his culinary creations.

The Elephant*

RESTAURANT

In 2006 Simon’s restaurant in Torquay, The Elephant, was awarded a MICHELIN Star and has retained it to this date. Most of his ingredients come from his 96-acre farm: the main inspiration for his iconic dishes. For everything else he relies on the region’s best suppliers.

Locality and seasonality are in The Elephant's core values. As a result, the 90-acre farm has been at the forefront of advancement in national and international guides. In addition, Simon works with the best local producers to sustain jobs and develop new and imaginative dishes.

  • 2003: Simon Hulstone won the Roux Scholarship
  • 2006: The Elephant was awarded a MICHELIN Star.
  • 2008: Simon Hulstone won the National Chef of the Year at the Craft Guild of Chefs.
  • 2008 & 2011: represented the UK in the Bocuse d’Or, the world’s most challenging and prestigious culinary contest.
  • 2009 & 2011: Simon Hulstone represented Great Britain in the Bocuse d’Or finals.
  • 2010-2016: Simon Hulstone was captain of the British Olympic culinary team.
  • 2011: Simon Hulstone was awarded the Classic Fine Foods accolade at the British Culinary Federation's Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Evening.
